Born in 1960
in Tunis, Abdellatif Kechiche arrived in France at the age of six and it was
very early that he developed a passion for the theater and began to take
courses. First an actor, he played for the first time in 1984 in Abdelkrim
Bahloul's successful film "Thé à la mint" before obtaining in 1987
the role of a gigolo in the film "Les Innocents", by André Téchiné.
He obtained his first award for this film, the male interpretation prize at the
Namur festival. Despite his early successes, Abdellatif feels more comfortable
behind the camera. His first film, "La Faute à Voltaire", was
released in 2000 and met with both public success and esteem. Telling the story
of a young Tunisian undocumented in France, the film won him the Golden Lion at
the Venice Film Festival. Continuing his momentum, Abdellatif wrote and
directed in 2003 the film "L'Esquive", which starred Sara Forestier
and which, there too, achieved considerable critical success and received no
less than four Césars in 2004, including those of the best film and best
director. The following films will prove to be just as successful for
Abdellatif since in 2006, his film "La Graine et le mulet" won four
more Césars, the same as in 2004. But it is also and above all his film " La
Vie d’Adèle ", released in 2013 and telling the passionate love story
between two girls from different backgrounds, which will be the director's
greatest success and which will earn him the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film
Festival.
