Kristen Stewart will soon be a princess on the big screen. And not just any one of them: the one that probably marked the general public in the 20th century. According to Deadline, the actress was recruited to perform Lady Diana in a biopic directed by the Chilean Pablo Larrain.
The film is written by Steven Knight, creator of Peaky Blinders, and is expected to go into production in early 2021. Spencer (the family name of the Princess of Wales) will recount an imaginary weekend, in the early 1990s, when the «Princess of Hearts» decided that her marriage to Prince Charles no longer satisfied her. A «inverted fairy tale», according to the filmmaker.
“ We all grew up imagining the fairy tale that this story could be. In general, the prince comes to fetch the princess, offers her to become his wife, and she becomes queen. That’s the fairy tale. But when this princess decides not to become queen, and says, “I’d rather go and stay myself”, it’s a huge decision, a fairy tale upside down. I’ve always been surprised by that and it must be very difficult. That’s the heart of the film,” he said.
Pablo Larrain did not hesitate very long before finding the ideal interpreter to play Diana Frances Spencer, now princess of Wales. Kristen can be a lot of things, she can be mysterious and very fragile, but very strong at the same time, and that’s exactly what we need. The combination of all these elements made me think of her. Her way of reacting to the script and her approach to the character, all this is magnificent. I think it’s going to be beautiful and it’s going to intrigue everybody at the same time. It’s a force of nature,” he said.
No release date was announced for this new film by Pablo Larrain, after Neruda and Jackie.
