David Lynch dissatisfied with « Dune » his own film!

David Lynch affirms he's "proud of everything, except Dune," the 1984 film adaptation he directed when asked which of his projects he was most satisfied with.

David Lynch,  filmmaker, painter, musician, singer, sound designer, photographer, and actor. He is best known for writing and directing films such as Eraserhead (1977), The Elephant Man (1980), Blue Velvet (1986), and Mulholland Drive (2001), which are often regarded by critics as among the best films of their timescan look back with the satisfaction of having accomplished an uncompromising and often admired work, he who has always been able to play with Hollywood constraints. And yet the director of Mulholland Drive has a small ridge across the throat, and that ridge has no other name than Dune.

" I'm pretty proud of all of my films except Dune," he said in response to a fan's question on his YouTube channel. But then, why, more than 30 years later, David Lynch remains unhappy with his adaptation of 1984 which included Kyle MacLachlan, Virginia Madsen, Patrick Stewart or Sting in the casting?

One of the main reasons why « Dune » remains the bane of David Lynch's career is simply because production had not left him in control. " I didn't get the final cut on this film. I didn't have total creative control. This is not the film I would have made if I had had my hand. And it's pretty sad " he lamented already in a previous interview.

Imay be just an anecdote, David Lynch had even demanded that his name be removed from the credits and replaced by that of Alan Smithee, a pseudonym used by directors who do not want to take on their work.

Slightly forgotten and victim of this fatherly dislike, this film is worth making your own idea, especially since the Dune of 1984 is currently on Netflix. A good way to immerse yourself in the arid sands of Arrakis while waiting for the adaptation of Denis Villeneuve with Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson and Oscar Isaac, and whose release is scheduled for December 23 of this year.
